Upgrades can increase the stats of a piece of equipment and sometimes even its extras. The worth of these upgrades is determined by the gear's tiers, their requirements and how many random augmentations are applied.
The most powerful racial Shield Razortail, for example, is frequently upgraded to enhance its lightning absorption capabilities in PvP and/or provide additional defenses to missile-based designs in the PvM. This makes it more exchangeable than the non-upgraded perfect version.
Reroll Tokens
Reroll tokens permit you to reroll a purchased item, like a weapon, armor or ring. The item is swapped for another similar item with an additional set of bonuses. Reroll tokens are an economical method of upgrading equipment. However, they don't keep the same level as the original item, and any wasted resources won't be compensated for.
The survivors can acquire reroll tokens via a variety of methods like the Mistery Box or as rare drops from skulled creatures. They can also be found in crates and chests or purchase them at the market for $150 each. Reroll tokens are used to change the attribute of a piece equipment such as increasing its damage.
Players can roll their equipment into three aspects: physical power, magic power, and health. Physical power upgrades boost the damage caused by weapons and melee attacks while spell power upgrades mage attacks and rings. Health upgrades provide the player with an additional amount of health.
Three types of reroll tokens are available in three categories: upgrade rare, legendary and rare. Each of these upgrades the item to higher quality. The marker for rerolling, unlike markers or tokens placed on action areas, remains on the space till the next success is rerolled. This allows you to ensure that upgrades are not wasted.
Blueprints are envelopes that appear at the start of each preparation phase. They are opened using Interact by grabbing on to them. When they are opened, they display an explanation and icon for the Ingredient or Appliance. Blueprints can be exchanged for a new Appliance or Ingredient in the restaurant's shop for the amount of coins.
In the course of a run, blueprints can be moved between the Staple Pool and the Non-staple pool due to selected Franchise Cards. This changes the blueprints that the restaurant's shop has available for rerolls and those that are in the Non-droppable Pool.
Growthstones
Weapons such as armor, weapons, and other accessories can be upgraded in Throne and Liberty using Growth Stones. These are special stones that can increase the level of an item by increasing its stats and attributes. These items can be found by visiting Equipment Enchanting NPCs in the major towns. Contract Coin Merchants will sell these stones for a cost. These stones can also be obtained by players who sign daily contracts.
To upgrade gear, the player must first locate the item, then click the "level up button". This will show a list of the item's current level and what it will become when it is upgraded. It will also show the amount of Growth Stones required to upgrade the Best item upgrade (official source). The number of Growth Stones needed to upgrade a piece depends on its rarity. Typically, rare (blue) weapons require more than one green Growth Stone to reach their next level, whereas rare armor requires a single green or blue Growth Stone.
After deciding what to upgrade, players must select the number of green Growth Stones they wish to utilize and pay the appropriate cost. After the player has met the requirements, he can select the upgrade option and apply the Growth Stones. The item will be raised in level by a specific percentage. A piece of equipment can be upgraded up to five times. Each time an item is upgraded, its base stats will be increased by a small percentage. The highest level for an item is 19.
When an item is at its maximum level that it can no longer have the option to upgrade. Likewise, once a piece of gear reaches a certain upgrade track (e.g. Veteran or Explorer), upgrades to the track will be offered at a discount.
Upgrade components are a kind of equipment that can be inserted into weapons, armor trinkets and gathering tools to provide an additional bonus or effect when the equipment is in use. They can be bought from vendors, looted or obtained through questing, or traded between players. Upgrade components can be replaced with new ones, but doing so will damage the previous upgrade, excluding for glyphs that can be removed and replaced at will.
Requirements

Once an upgrade component is inserted into an object, it cannot be removed or replaced. However it is possible to swap glyphs freely.
Upgrades can increase an item level upgrade's Mark Level or Rarity. Additionally, some upgrade components include additional modifiers that can enhance the stats of the item.
For example, the helm upgrade "Foundation of the Sun" improves base defense, and also gives an additional 20% chance to block. Additionally the dps upgrade "Wildfire" increases weapon damage.
Certain items benefit from upgrading less for their increased stats, but more because it allows players to gain the most value from a perfect roll on the item.
