Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly-rated and functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop, is a well made machine. The price of $1400 may be hard to swallow but it is often offered for sale to make it more affordable. The unit looks great and the base station occupies very little space in a corner of a room.
The design of this robot is a solution to some of the issues we've experienced with other robotic mop and vacuum units, such as brushes that get tangled up in hair and the vacuum brush not being able enough to reach the flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping performance on floors and carpets is also impressive. The vacuum/mop system has the highest amount of debris collection and the mop can saturate bare floors quickly.
The mops also have an intelligent system to clean along the edges of walls and around furniture. The robot can easily avoid obstacles such as food bowls, toys, and backpacks. But it can get stuck or entangled with smaller and less hefty objects such as shoelaces, USB cables and pens.
This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood floors, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a large open-plan home. With FREO Mind enabled, it cleaned and mopped the 90m2 area in about 170 minutes which is about average for Gen 4.
This robot is distinguished by a variety of features. The Freo X Ultra has a number of software, sensors and hardware improvements designed to keep it at the top of its game. It promises 3.5 hours of autonomy in environments up 260m2.
Freo's application lets you customize multiple functions, including how often the robot comes to the base station. You can also change the frequency of mopping, the power level (silent, intelligent), or the mopping humidity. The app is able to detect heavily soiled areas and create an efficient cleaning route, as well as give detergent out or raise the carpet's pads.
Other noteworthy features include a quick charging battery, a clear display on the robot's bottom, and a convenient dock door that is easy to open. The Freo X Ultra is the most efficient automatic vacuum and mop for home or apartment owners who want to cut down on their chores while keeping their home clean and tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the world of robotic vacuuming. This new model aims to take that to the next level, with smart features and top-notch cleaning performance.
The RX3 features a dual-suction system smart mapping system that includes 3D mapping and cameras that send a real-time image to your smartphone. The RX3's four-stage system is excellent for dust collection on carpets and hard floors. Side brushes can be swept out with dual suction channels, and a user-friendly interface clean corners. The 8.5 cm height lets it fit under low furniture, while front cameras and infrared sensors assist it navigate obstacles and thresholds easily.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our tests on how well it was able to clean baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its 2,500Pa suction was weaker than other robots, but it was quiet and swift in its movements. It didn't mop and its cleaning pad that was removable was difficult to attach. It also was unable to take on dirt that had dried up.
Its app lacks advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does work with Alexa, but its voice controls aren't very intuitive or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it comes back to the charging station following the course. Other robots can follow an obstruction or follow an earlier route, but the RX3 is a mess until it gives up.
Another issue we faced was with its clever features, specifically the mapping function as well as digital keep-out zones. It was good at keeping our furniture legs and shoes away, but it was easily caught on cables, socks and rugs. We didn't include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. Still, with a decent price and a dazzling performance, the Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
