There are models that can mop and charge themselves this is an option that is essential for families with children or pets. Many of the best automatic vacuum cleaner performers in our tests have great ability to overcome obstacles.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. That makes the i3+ a great choice for people who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but don't mind having to empty their dust bin manually when it fills up.
Both robots excel at cleaning up surface debris from carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent at getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we tested the i3+ doesn't have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and may have issues navigating across surface transitions like hardwood to rug.
iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter free of dirt to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is depleted, it returns to its docking station and automatically emptying its debris into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning the area where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to fully recharge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It has self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is the self-emptying bin. This removes the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or via the app.
In our tests the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin, which eliminates the main sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.
We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions and move around the room and vacuum an area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world full of vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model is a sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.
The V10 is powered by seven cells of energy-dense Lithium-ion batteries, which produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large particles or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adapted to suit the task. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum, and then back to floor.
This model has a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also provides an easy access to two attachments and the handheld. This is a significant improvement over previous Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's biggest drawback is its sluggish run time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of run time are not true, as CR's testing shows. This is an average and not a remarkable time to run a battery-powered cordless vac. It's enough time to sweep the typical home but not enough to reach every area. (A second time is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior on low-pile floor carpet.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to invest in the latest model of robot cleaner amazon. It was able to pick up most types of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area many times to ensure an efficient clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and edges of walls.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to stay clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. It can get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and will often run out of power before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has less parts that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower cost of recurring costs, has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better navigate its own. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.
The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of reasons, since it has a longer battery life, can change its suction power mode on its own and has physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and can perform better on floors with low pile and bare.

In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. However, it wasn't particularly well at avoiding taller objects like cords and socks which was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than the other models we tested, which might be a deal-breaker for certain shoppers.
The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's cleaning area. This feature lets you keep track of your pets or kids when you're away from home. The dustbin and the filter can be cleaned for an easy, quick clean-up.
